The Weather

Can you feel the change in the air? The change in season? The longing to wear warmer more snuggly clothes? IIIIIIIII do!!!! Isn't the seasons changing such a wonderful gift? It gives us variety, change, hope and excitement. For me, the Autumn season is by FAR my favorite but the shortest season here in Utah. But GLORIOUSLY beautiful none the less and I get to decorate for Halloween!!!!! Oh be still my little beating heart! These beautiful images were taken by the amazing Niki Martins. This woman has an eye and I'm so glad because, believe it or not, staged photos are NOT my forte and I always feel uncomfortable. Put my with friends and tell us to be goofy? GOT it! Messing around with the boys? Okay! Even being dorky on camera for you guys during tutorials, paaaaassable. But staged? My eye starts twitching LOL!!! All the same, I am so happy to be a voice that a few of you want to listen to. I hope that I make some of you smile, chortle even if you feel so inclined. I'm glad to be a voice for more curvy girls...especially the J-Lo part ;D. Take the weather of today and feel joy in the changing season. Hugs!!!
Trying to "own" that butt of mine ;D
Until next time!!!

Purple Cut Crease

Today is all about cutting your crease. That pretty much means putting whatever color you choose in your crease and only blending above that line, never below. Some people are amazing at it and I revere them for it! For example,

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY62qc719kY
This is a technique that I want to be better at so to do that, one must practice! I hope to look back at earlier videos and giggle ; D. Want to take the journey with me? Well, here's the first one! Hope you enjoy it!!!

Saint Patrick's Day Eyes

Top o the mornin to ya! Have I told you lately that I love the color green on my eyes? It is one of "my  colors" from the color wheel and it just makes me happy every time I put it on. This fun little shoot was done by the amazing Miss Sara Marie from Sara Simpson Photography. It was featured on my Instagram Fashion account complete with outfit details. I have been having so much fun sharing my closet with you guys...and can I say that it is a little freeing? I have been one, like a lot of girls, to be down on myself when I look in the mirror. This creative outlet has helped my own what I love and share it. By talking about the pieces that I love from my closet and explaining why they work for me, it has helped me to compliment myself in a round about way. Not to feel conceited (at all) but more so to point out the positive and be happy with me =). I felt the combination of the outfit and the makeup was just perfect for today! Here's the video tutorial on how you can get your own amazing green and gold glittery eyes. Enjoy!

Walkin In A Winter Berry Land

There is nothing like a "berry" red lip for the cold winter blues. I myself love wearing all shades of red but do tend to gravitate toward bright with just a hint of darkening around the corners. I'm wearing just that today! MAC Russian Red with a hint of MACs Dark Side (any dark hue will do). Long before the whole ombre craze there was just plain contouring around the mouth and this lip embodies that. I used a red lip pencil that I bought in Russia EONS ago, to line and fill in my lips. Then used my MAC 219 brush (obSESSing over that bad boy as a lip brush right now) to brush on some Russian Red. I then took a maroon lip pencil that I grabbed from a shimmering glass bowl in Forever 21 years back to add some definition to the outer corners of said lips. Last but not least I used my trusty 219 once again, to LiGhTlY add some Dark Side to the outer corners. *WARNING* Dark Side is sooooo pigmented and a dab will really do it (insert promises here on that!). Viola! Your perfect winter lip =). Now keep in mind that you can do this same technique but add YOUR perfect colors in there. Are you more of a blood red gal? Do you gravitate toward a more orangey red? The sky is the limit!!! Send in your pretty pout to dollcosmetics@gmail.com and show me how YOU get through the winter blues =).

Red smudge ;), MAC 219, Dark Side, Russian Red, Forever 21 lip pencil in Berry
*extra tip* looooooooove that gorgeous lip and want to take your face to the next level? Pair it with bold brows and you will be the talk of Tinsel Town muuuuaaaahhhh!!!

Brave

Here is my journal entry that I wrote about me and my friend's aMAZing day on August 31st. This was the day before our little family packed up and took off for Disneyland. I almost missed out on this day and I am SO glad we decided to leave a day later!!!! Enjoy a look into my funny life =).
Psst...are you awake? I can't sleep because WHAT an amazing day!!! The plan was simple, Maria's birthday was today/yesterday so we were to get ready at my house, go shopping, go to lunch and then to see Sara Bareilles up in Park City. We ended up leaving super late but still in good spirits ready to shop! All the way there and through out we would joke about meeting Sara (yeah right!) and how we would totally be best friends. We found SO many cute things, most of them the last in the shop or just our sizes. Sign of good things to come? We ate at the California Pizza Kitchen for lunch which was beyond yummy and topped it off with a birthday sundae. Then it was off to Park City. Let me tell you one thing about Maria right now. She has been SUCH a dedicated runner that she actually injured her foot and has been wearing a boot for the last few days after seeing the doctor. There were over 5,000 people at this outdoor concert so we ended up parking VERY far away and having to walk quite a bit all the way uphill. I could tell it was hurting her foot so we decided to check out the merchandise and use the restrooms. The line to get in was even longer than the hike to get up there (literally) and hoping the people at the front would have pity on at least her I explained the situation. They let her sit up there as I went to go all the way to the back of the 5 mile line to wait. I had barely left when I ran into someone I had met through my cosmetics blog (love you Heather!). We chatted and giggled about seeing each other and crazy life events. Then she tells me she actually won a radio contest and she was waiting around to meet Sara!!!! Hearing this sent chills through me and I just started laughing and petting her arm, "I just have to touch the person going to meet Sara . Tell her I love her, and that we should be friends and...". "Excuse me but do YOU want to meet Sara too?" I turn to see the guy in charge of this little group going backstage. After picking my jaw up off the ground he tells me that another person that had one hadn't shown up and there was an opening. I told him about Maria and he said to go and get her. WE WERE GOING TO MEET HER!!!!! I just couldn't believe it! We went backstage, shook her hand, chatted, got pictures and I showed her a video of Branson singing her song "Brave". She loved it (hi, he's darling LOL) and just like that we had met the girl we had only joked about meeting. EPIC!!! Upon leaving I asked if we needed to go stand in line now (lawn seating so I'm sure all the lower areas were taken). He said we were good to just walk in AND that Maria's boot qualified her to sit in the handicapped seating. THIS DAY COULD NOT GET ANY BETTER!!!!! We were able to sit right at the feet of Miss Bareilles as we belted out our favorite songs and snapped picture after picture. I could not have imagined a better day and am SO glad I got to share it with such a dear friend. Happy Birthday Maria of mine. Love you!!!!

Smokey Brown (Mountains for Earth Day)

Happy Earth week ladies! Today is a smokey brown tutorial inspired by the mountains. I have such a beautiful view of the Rockies out our back window and love love LOVE to look at them. It makes me think of all those vacations, camping, snowboarding or skiing looking out at the mountains. I feel super grateful to be able to see them everyday now =). Love this look too!

Don't you love my model poses? LOL My hubby loved the look and wanted a new picture of me. He was so funny and wanted me to take a pic in the car. He turned on my fav music (blasted it is more like it) and turned on the air full blast (man is it hard to keep your eyes open with it blowing) and was like,"Honey, it's like a real photo shoot!" LOL!!! Here was the winner chosen to come up on his phone when I call

Flawless Kim Kardashian Makeup

Saw this picture and was SO captivated by it. Love her or hate her, she knows how to wear her makeup! Her makeup artist has sent girls all over reeling trying to make their cheekbones as pronounced, their eyes as dreamy, their lashes as long and thick and lips as pouty as possible! Sure, they airbrushed the JuNk out of this photo but still.....beautiful!!!!! In this video I teach how to achieve this gorgeous look with two different lips. One with the orangy red she sports and the other with a very glossy nude lip. One thing I was most impressed with as I went through doing my eyelashes was that I thought my demi whispies might not be good enough to match hers. I ended up doing a good coat of mascara on them and they TOTALLY proved worthy!!!!! SO fun to find that something you already had, something you thought was only good for one thing, surprises you =). I don't feel the need to go out and get different lashes when doing Kim looks. Tell me what you think and which lip is your favorite!

Make Those Blue Eyes POP!!!

This is probably one of my most requested tutorials. Not this one specifically, but in general. A lot of girls want to know what colors will make their blue eyes stand out. I've always dreamed of having super dark hair and beautiful blue eyes. It's just a combo that I find stunning! Alas, I'm a brown eyed girl ;) but still love it! I have done a tutorial for the summer time and here is one for the winter. It is the same general idea but a few different colors.
P.S. Be looking soon on the blog for a giveaway from Shabby Apple!!!!! Here is the outfit I wore in the video =):

Reese Witherspoon (& a red lip)

I had a request from Ashley for a Reese Witherspoon look and also a red lip tutorial. I kind of just put them both together since they came from the same person =). You can also watch it in HD!!!!!!! SO much better quality. Click play and where you see the numbers 360p, click on it and choose the 720pHD version =). She wanted to know how to do shadow on hooded lids and how to make a red lip not look trashy with her coloring. She also sent me some pictures of herself and holy COW does she look like Reese. Check out that jawline!!!
This is the red lip that I chose for the look but not the eye makeup. I think this lip will look stunning on Ashley with it's slight orange undertone.
Here is cute Ashley herself =).
This is the eye makeup that I chose for the tutorial. Soft and somewhat pinky nude in it's color with fabulous sparkle. Great for the red carpet and stunning for an everyday look. I'll be doing a more dramatic Reese eye in the future.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Tutorial

Do you remember the first time you remember Catherine Zeta Jones in all of her gorgeous glory? For me it was Zorro and I thought she was so beautiful and such a great actress! I remember the magazine that came out when she wore this look on the red carpet as well. I was tickled that they were spotlighting how to make brown eyes pop and low and behold...I HAD BROWN EYES!!!! I was so eager to try the green all around and when the look was completed I LoVeD it and sported it for a while =). Just recently I got an email from Tanja asking for a Catherine look and I immediately remembered my fav green eye and decided to pull it out and share it with you. Enjoy and sport if for  a while yourself! =)

Sally the Rag Doll

Sally the Rag Doll from Tim Burton's the Nightmare Before Christmas is a fav of mine for Halloween. I love the look and the costume is just as fun! Here is my spin on the look and an option for you this Halloween. Our third annual Halloween Contest is coming up soon!!!

10/9/11

Snow White

Halloween is coming ladies! What are you going to be? I will be starting the Halloween series this week and hope that you will send in requests! Our first look will be Snow White. This little princess was beloved and sweet, albeit just a touch naive (NEVER take apples from strangers!). For the original movie the animators actually took real makeup and applied it to her in every frame. Her lips were also more of a brown red but has become iconic apple red for anyone doing the look now. I hope you like it =).
Speaking of Halloween, attention anyone in the Utah Valley area, I invite you to Witch's Night at Gardener's Village. I'll be there all decked out and looking to meet YOU! Are you coming? Will I see you there? Hope so = D!!!

Smokey Eye Request

Shelby, you have been SO patient and I appreciate it. I get so many requests and I get to them all as soon as I can. They are all so gorgeous!!! Thanks for all of the requests and keep them coming. You can now find me starting my boards on Pinterest under Classy Cosmetics =).
P.S. Do you have the Instagram app for your phone? I {heart} it in a major way! You can do this kind of effect with pictures taken with your phone. My husband does such a great job that I am trying to hire him to do ALL of my photos on the blog ;).

10 Min Smokey Eye

For the most part five minute faces are fun to see what you can accomplish. I know that I love them! I thought though that realistically we may have a bit longer than that. If my husband asked me out and found a sitter for the kids I know he would at MiNiMuM give me ten minutes. So HeRe it is a 10 minute smokey eye complete with lashes. Look polishes, classy, sophisticated QUICKLY! Enjoy =).

Elizabeth Taylor Tribute

Elizabeth Taylor was such an icon. In the movies she was on point and direct and with makeup (in her earlier years) I felt she was one of the greats! I felt it was time I did a tribute to the look and feel of this Hollywood starlet. Here is my take on her look in general, not from any one picture but I thought I'd put up a few that would demonstrate her rich beauty. I think it took me a while to pay homage to her because for the longest time she left a bad taste in my mouth. She was lovely but unfortunately stole a few husbands in her day. I LOVE Debbie Reynolds and Liz took her hubby = (...look at me talking about them as if I know them! =) Anyway, I loved her look, at least, and wanted to give my interpretation of all the little details that made up Elizabeth's face. I hope you like it!
Can't you just SEE Camilla Belle playing her in a movie??? It's ridiculous how much alike they look!
Classic, stunning, gorgeous.

Sucker Punch Babydoll Tutorial

I have gotten quite a few requests for this look and it was about time to do it. I haven't seen the movie but I hear it is visually stunning and worth it. Have you seen it? Was it any good? Well, this little chica was the most understated as far as makeup was concerned out of all of them. I remember her from A Series Of Unfortunate Events and RARELY do I think that someone who has dark hair naturally looks better blond. Gwen Stefani is one and now this girl is another. I LOVE it!!! I am for sure a fan of the glowing skin and the pink cheeks. Overall, one of my fav looks and I might just do the hair thing again = D. Enjoy!!!

Hot Smokey Summer Eye

Turn up the heat with this smoldery eye! I haven't been feeling all that great this past week but inspiration struck and now I give you the silent movie era of makeup tutorials =). The music makes me want to do a 1920's flapper look...and I think I just might!!! My fav part is that it took my husband this long to show me how to speed up videos and change transitions. I feel like I am BURSTING with new ideas now!!! This video normally would have been 8 min long but since I sped it up to match the theme it's HALF that! Also, I hold up a brown shadow toward the beginning and don't tell you the name is Embark from MAC.
Well, I am off to bed for more sleep. I need it since my son's birthday party is coming up and I want to kick this sickness to the CuRb! Get this, he asked for a Halloween Birthday Bash in June =). I am beYOND excited since that is one of my FAVORITE holidays. Can I share the invites with you?
We made a mold of his finger, roughed it up, tied a reminder ribbon around it and laid it on a soft bed of reindeer moss. I was DYING when I saw how cute and little his fingers were =). Thank you Martha!!!
